An experiment with cardboard that is shaped and decorated into large “pop” sculptural buildings worn by the 2 main performers. Other dancers are present carying abstract architectural props.
There are two parts to my research: the cinematic experience of moving through an environment and the personification of inanimate objects. These are the two ways in which I think that we connect to and understand our surroundings. One part is purely perception, in terms of perspective and seeing ourselves in relationship to other objects. The other could be considered “land marking,” a system in which we add meaning to objects and places in order to codify them. In this case I am lending a personality to the buildings based on my own history and experience with them.
